West Central Education District Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program
Serving students with hearing loss in Sauk Centre, Melrose, Avon, Albany and Paynesville
The West Central Education District has two Deaf/Hard of Hearing teachers and a school audiologist who strive to support and facilitate learning at home in the birth to two program and in the schools (Preschool- grade 12). We do our best to help families and students positively experience learning as they develop new skills.
Our services cover evaluation, creating individual education plans, teaching and monitoring progress toward educational goals our students have. We encourage self-advocacy, and teach our students to use the tools and accommodations required in order for them to have equal access to education. We support students in literacy, language, communication, support for math, social studies and science, and preparation for transition to post secondary life.
Accommodations and supports for school personnel are addressed with teachers and staff working with our students in the schools. We do our best to provide resources and information for staff working with our students, so that as educators we can most effectively accommodate the needs of our students to offer the best access to learning as possible.
