Early Intervention Family Resources
Early Intervention, or Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) is the name for Special Education services for infants, toddlers and preschool children with disabilities and their families. ECSE is broken down into Part C (services for children birth through 2 years of age) and Part B (services for children three through six years of age). Early Intervention focuses on positive, practical ways to help a child whose development is delayed. Professionals such as Physical, Occupational, Developmental, and Speech therapists help the family nurture a child's strengths and improve areas of weakness. If your child's development is delayed, Early Intervention is an important start.
In addition to school based staff, others that may be involved in planning and providing early services may include county social workers and medical professionals from the local community. This team approach to early identification and comprehensive intervention is designed to be a family friendly process to help all children access services to meet their needs.
